Soy wax is a product derived from the oil of soybeans, it is collected during the harvesting process and turned into wax through hydrogenation.
Soy wax is a completely renewable material and a great natural alternative to paraffin wax which is derived from petroleum, coal and oil shale.
Soy wax is fast becoming the preferred wax used to make candles due to its many superior qualities including:
Soy wax on it’s own is quite soft at room temperature, for this reason it is most commonly used for container candles. However many still use soy wax in pillar or votive candles by combining it with paraffin or palm wax.
Soy wax comes in flake form appearing creamy white in colour and soft in texture.
Most of the world's soy wax is produced in the US, specifically Illinois, Iowa and Indiana. The two most commonly used wax products in candle making are EcoSoya and Golden Brands. We sell both ranges on our website and for ease of comparison we have created a simple table to compare the qualities of each.
If you are looking to try a new brand of wax, we strongly recommend to experiment with different wicks and pour temperatures in order to achieve the best results.
